Betsy Power

Betsy Power is trained as an architect with a focus on green design and community-based development. She has worked with communities in Eastern Washington and Ecuador as a guide to self-determined development. She is the co-founder and CEO of Culinary Collective, a specialty food importer that works with small producers of all-natural gourmet food from Spain and Latin America. In addition, Betsy is a strong proponent of responsible business. In 2003, out of frustration with the lack of resources available to small businesses - the backbone of our economy - she embarked on a four year quest, which came to be called WiserBusiness, to create a universal taxonomy for social and environmental business practices. The objective was to offer businesses free guidance for implementing such practices, while encouraging consumers to support these businesses. The Wiser taxonomy has been donated to several similar efforts underway including B Corporation, Interra, and SBAR. Using this criteria as a foundation, she co-founded with Paul Hawken in 2004 Highwater Research a socially responsible investing research organization in San Francisco.
